Bugs About Wetapunga Update

The young wetapunga hatched earlier this year as part of the Greenﬁngers Bugs About Wetapunga Breeding programme are doing very well and getting more robust.

Over 100 babies have survived to date, each living in their own container. At the hatchling stage they were around 6- 7mm long and some are now up to 20mm. Soon we will be able to determine how many boys and girls we have.

It is hoped that some will be ready for release this coming spring if their growth continues at this cracking pace, which will be the ﬁrst time captive bred wetapunga have been released into the wild. We’ve got all our ﬁngers (and antennaes) crossed for that!

Recycling Tips

Your local council will most likely provide a kerbside recycling service. If not, take your recyclables to your local recycling depot.

Here are some simple recycling tips:

Plastics: Wash and remove lids of plastic bottles and containers marked with a triangular recycling symbol 1 to 7 such as soft drink and milk bottles, shampoo and cream bottles.
Paper: Keep and recycle all clean and dry newspaper, magazines, mixed paper, cardboard and telephone books. Clean and flatten cardboard milk and juice cartons.
Glass: Wash green, clear and brown glass bottles and jars and be sure to remove lids.
Cans: Wash steel and aluminum cans and remove the paper labels where possible.
